James Aziz is the current CEO of National Steel Car and has been for more than 20 years. He’s one of the most CEOs in the engineering and manufacturing industry. Before becoming one of the most CEOs in the world, he was just a business student at the University of Western Ontario.
Immediately after graduating, he started working at his family’s business. They owned a very successful wholesale food business called Affiliated Foods. He didn’t work long, but it was long enough for him to figure out he wanted something more.
After leaving his family’s business, he moved to New York to pursue a career in investment banking. It was one of those decisions that sounded a lot better than it actually was. Eventually, the hustle and bustle of the banking world chews everyone up and spits them out.
In he’s case, Aziz started working for National Steel Car in 1994. He wasn’t really sick of investment banking; he just wanted something more. Working at National Steel Car proved the best option for him and it’s where he’s remained since. He seems to love working with everyone at National Steel Car.
James Aziz work ethic was developped over the years prior to joining National Steel Car. Once he became CEO of the company, his work ethic climbed to a new level. Before, he only focused on his own work and those working immediately around him. As CEO, he focused on the greater good of National Steel Car.
That strategy led to numerous awards and honors that National Steel Car never achieved. Though he won’t admit it, he’s an invaluable asset and contributor to the company’s overall morale and success. He won’t admit any of that because he’s too humble.
